Our service as an outpatient clinic has a highly specialized staff familiarized with the most current medical advances. We work closely with the National Programme for HIV and Aids, but we also do it privately. The services we provide include medical checkups with periodic blood tests. We also offer other important services such as counseling, palliative care. pediatrics and nutrition, all within our philosophy of maximum confidentiality, ethics, no discrimination and quality of services. When specialists are needed, we refer the patients to a net of doctors and other professionals willing to work with those having the condition of HIV.
IDEV works with universities (national and international), hospitals, pharmaceutical companies and frontline laboratories interested in doing research in the area of HIV and other virosis. The principal emphasis has been on new molecules seeking FDA approval and IDEV´s proficiency permitted them to pass an FDA audit in 2012 without any formal corrective action needed. Two laboratories exist in the institute for routine tests related to HIV, for example rapid HIV testing, CD4 counts and western blot. The second lab is in development to handle the area of molecular biology.
Since its very beguinning IDEV has implemented several educational programs to prepare others with the training and information needed to fight HIV / AIDS. The programs are aimed at health professionals, medical students, social educators and counselors, both private and public institutions. At the same time, IDEV is always ready to pass on information to the general population by participating in TV programs, press conferences and speeches when invited; something that we continously do since the days of our foundation.
